Figuring out what I want to do for the “rest of my life” has been one of the most challenging aspects of living in my twenties.

I have wanted to be an ob-gyn, a psychologist, a social worker, in human resources, in health promotion, the list goes on. I have talked to countless professionals in these fields, done a crazy amount of research, pursued volunteer/job opportunities in these fields, etc. But each time I thought I had finally figured out what I wanted to do, time with my decision always showed that it wasn’t a good fit.

A few years and countless career exploration courses later, I have come to realize that my dream career is the one that was always in the back of my mind but I was too scared to pursue. So you are reading the story of a future lawyer!

In the meantime, while I prepare to apply and attend law school, I have a full-time job at a university that has been an adventure of its own. From navigating my relationship with my supervisor and colleagues to negotiating a salary increase, I feel like this “real world” work experience has aged me well beyond 24 years.

Getting used to office politics is not easy, so hopefully, by sharing what it’s like working while living in your twenties it’ll become slightly easier.
